Strategy from First Principles

Teach Claude to build strategy as infrastructure — structured, queryable, and consumable by both humans and AI.

Overview

Most organisations inherit their approach to strategy — adopting OKRs because Google does, running quarterly reviews because consultants recommend it, writing strategic plans because the board expects a document. None of this is strategy.

This Claude skill encodes Stratafy's first-principles approach to defining and building strategy. It teaches Claude to coach users through a four-layer architecture that transforms strategy from a periodic exercise into a continuous operating system.

The four layers:

  1. Foundation — Who you are. Mission, vision, values, beliefs, and principles.
  2. Strategy — How you choose to win. The logic connecting identity to ambition.
  3. Initiatives — What you're actually doing. Strategic, tactical, and operational commitments.
  4. Objectives & Metrics — How you know. Bounded targets and continuous measures.

Surrounding these four execution layers are five intelligence layers — risks, assumptions, decisions, insights, and radar — that make strategy a living system capable of learning and adapting.

What You'll Get

Foundation Coaching
Guides users through mission, vision, values, beliefs, and principles — with quality tests that reject platitudes and push for operational specificity.
Strategy Decomposition
Breaks corporate strategy into functional strategies and sub-strategies. Enforces the rule: if you have three corporate strategies, you have none.
Initiative Planning
Classifies initiatives as strategic, tactical, or operational. Surfaces operational creep and ensures every initiative traces to a strategy.
Measurement System
Sets up objectives, key results, milestones, and metrics with leading/lagging indicators, thresholds, and proper polarity definitions.
Intelligence Layers
Populates risks, assumptions, decisions, insights, and radar — the five layers that make strategy a living system instead of a static document.
Anti-Pattern Detection
Identifies and calls out common failures: strategy-as-to-do-list, implicit beliefs, missing measurement, untested assumptions, and more.
