Foundation Drift

The most corrosive form of misalignment, in which decisions and actions gradually contradict the organisation's stated values, beliefs, or principles, eroding trust over time. (Strategy as Infrastructure, Ch 8)

Why it matters

Strategic drift is rarely sudden — it accumulates through thousands of small decisions made without strategic context. By the time drift is visible in outcomes, the organisation may be months or years away from its intended path. Continuous alignment monitoring is the primary defence.

How Stratafy addresses this

Stratafy detects strategic drift before it compounds into failure through a five-directional alignment suite, named misalignment types, and layered review cadences structurally matched to how fast each layer drifts. Drift is caught in days, not quarters.

Five-directional alignment scanning

Drift is detected across five distinct directions: Internal (foundation to strategy), Coherence (strategy to strategy), Radar (external environment to strategy), Public Presence (strategy to what the world sees), and Organisational (strategy to people and structure). Each direction catches a different failure mode.

Six named misalignment types

The product identifies six specific failure patterns: Orphaned Initiatives (work without strategic intent), Broken Traceability (strategy with no execution), Foundation Drift (decisions contradicting values), Metric Misalignment (measuring the wrong things), Resource Mismatch (budget not matching priorities), and Organisational Misfit (structure incapable of executing strategy).

AI-triggered alignment scans via MCP

AI agents can trigger alignment scans directly: run_alignment_foundation_scan evaluates a strategy against mission, vision, and values; run_alignment_coherence_scan detects conflicts and dependency gaps; run_alignment_suite runs all lenses in parallel. Results include health scores per element and recommended actions with severity ratings.

Review cadences matched to drift speed

Each layer has a review cadence matched to how fast it drifts: foundation annually, strategy quarterly, initiatives monthly, tactics weekly. A continuous co-working loop processes signals as they arrive. Alignment is not agreement — it is structural traceability where every initiative traces to a strategy, every strategy to foundation.
